Fritillary
24C this afternoon and we thought it might be worth a visit to Howe Ridding Wood to see if the Pearl Bordered fritillaries were on the wing. Success!
One of our rarer butterflies, the caterpillars feed on violet leaves in sunny glades where traditional woodland management is maintained.
So not many of them left of course.
In this Cumbria Wildlife Trust reserve there is still a reasonable population so let's hope for some more lovely weather for them.
