Lesser swallow prominent
I was really pleased to have been able to run my moth trap for the last 5 nights...it is so good to be able to run it. Sadly showers are forecast tonight so the moth trap is tucked away in the back room and I am sulking!!!
3 years ago when I brought the safari trap (which I cannibalized to make my Robinson type trap), this beautiful moth was one of the first moths I caught. Little did I know then what an exciting adventure it would become, I had run a 'proper' Robinson MV trap all through my teens, but we lived in a far more rural location, and to be honest I didn't expect much from my little suburban garden I have today....but I was so wrong!!!
So far I have trapped 5 species of prominent moths plus the amazing lobster moth ...I wonder which will be next!
The lesser swallow prominent Pheosia gnoma is fairly common throught Britain, and flies in May and June and again in August. The larvae feed on birch.
