Ice Landscape

This icy wall top created a miniature ice 'wasteland'. Nature amazes me, it pops up in the bleakest spots.

In my Durham days, a small group of us from college met with residents of a tower block in Gateshead. One student said that he wouldn't survive in the area because he needed space and the natural world to keep him going.

A resident said that nature was everywhere, even in Gateshead.
'It only takes one blade of grass to push through the tarmac and bugger the whole thing up - now that,' he said, 'is truly the force of nature, the power of God's creation.'

Fascinating how some things stick with us for years. When I see a little plant 'buggering the whole thing up', I always remember the guy from the flats and his wry smile as he realized he had as much, if not more wisdom than these supposedly bright young things from university.

(Looks better in 'big' format ;-)
