Uncertain Emotions

"Place Where the Youths Danced Naked"

Another scorchingly hot day today (albeit with a surprisingly chill breeze) and I picked the hottest part of the day to go up a mountain to see Ancient Thira. You can't go to Greece without seeing some ruins.

There are two ways to reach Ancient Thira from Kamari:

1. walk for an hour or so up the steepest, most hair-pin-bendy road up the side of the mountain and then walk in the searing sun for another 10 mins or so to reach the ruins

2. pay a man 10 euros to skilfully drive a small minibus up and down the scarily steep and hairpin-bendy road. And then trek 10 mins or so uphill to reach the ruins.

I opted for number 2. Apparently the driver has been called out numerous times to rescue people who've got part way up the mountain and collapsed due to heat exhaustion.

Amazing views over to Kamari and Parissa and the ruins themselves are expansive. They never seem to come out that well in photos though when low-level ruins, which is a shame, so you have some flowers growing amongst the ruins.

The title refers to an area of the ancient city.

Then, back down the mountain for very tasty pork souvlakia and Mythos beer :-)
