Uncertain Emotions

Cliche #3

You'd be forgiven for thinking sunsets only happen off the coast of Santorini and nowhere else, given the hype they receive.

But they do do them well :-)

Another trip today, this time we picked up a kaiki (fine-looking wooden boat) from the port at Fira and first went to the thermal springs on Palia Kameni (the active one...) I wimped out (along with 90% of the others) when it came to diving into the sea from the boat and swimming to the thermal spa, but it looked good - if chilly at first.

Such a shame though as the clouds returned and when we continued our trip around the inside of the caldera, the sky was grey and we didn't get to see the dramatic contrast of white buildings against blue sky when we sailed underneath Oia.

We moored on Thirassia island and had the only bad meal of the week - served in a scruffy restaurant by bored staff. Other trips include meals cooked on board the boat and I can see why.

Anyway, just as we set sail again and had given up on seeing the sunset, the clouds parted and we got to see it. Must say, it's impressive - although not easy to try and get a decent shot from the deck of a gently bobbing boat...

Bit gutted though that as soon as the sun had gone below the horizon, we set off again and were on shore and on the bus back whilst there were still some amazing colours in the sky. It would have been lovely to stay out longer and photograph them.
