Uncertain Emotions

Last Day

One of the things I really like about Santorini is the light and the interplay of light and shade on the white buildings - even just some stairs at the hotel.

After a couple of cooler, cloudy days, the sun was back out again today as I'd a late flight home, I had chance to soak up some last sun, do a bit of wandering and shopping, before having lunch and then doing more sun-soaking.

Not a big fan of evening flights as I can never switch off enough to really enjoy the bit before I have to leave.

Santorini airport is interesting. The reps did an amazing job of organising check-in (you queue outside the terminal and then go into the building, a few at a time) but we were told that our flight was delayed by 45mins due to the late arrival of the incoming flight. Odd - Manchester showed it as having left on time and the reps said all their systems said the same.

Because the airport is so small, you check in then go back outside to sit outside a taverna. Just after I got there, our plane landed. On time. Turns out the airport had got its wires crossed as instead of announcing that just the Thomas Cook flight to Manchester was delayed, it said ours was too.

So then it was a dash back to the airport, queue through security, to hear the announcement to go through passport control ready for boarding - more queuing, but then straight on the plane.

Got home 2am, which according to my body-clock, was 4am in Santorini time.
