Caerphilly Castle Sunset
I planned to do a sunset shot today but took a few photo's through the day as a back-up incase the sunset was not a good one.
At 8.40pm, I set up opposite Caerphilly Castle for the sunset which was due at 9.05pm. The one I chose was at 9.12pm, and like it as it's got a good hue and the red Welsh dragon flag is nicely visible. Also, it is over Caerphilly Castle's leaning tower, and is a sort of semi-silhouette.
A quick history:
Caerphilly Castle is a medieval fortification in Caerphilly in South Wales. The castle was constructed by Gilbert de Clare in 1267-71 as part of his campaign to conquer Glamorgan, and saw extensive fighting between Gilbert and his descendants and the native Welsh rulers.
Surrounded by extensive artificial lakes – considered by historian Allen Brown to be "the most elaborate water defences in all Britain" – it occupies around 30 acres and is the second largest castle in Britain. It is famous for having introduced concentric castle defences to Britain and for its large gatehouses.
