Village sign
With little time and even less inspiration R drove around some of the villages in search of a rural scene. Instead we settled for this village sign that depicts the very rural life of a nearby village. Aldwincle lies on a bend in the River Nene and was mentioned in the Doomsday book. Having had two Manors, until 1971 it had two Parish Churches. The one shown on the sign is St Peters and is still very much in use. The sheep and their lambs graze in the field beside it. All Saints is now maintained by the Redundant Churches Trust. John Dryden, Poet Laureate in 1688 was born in the Rectory just across the road from All Saints.
Thunderstorms this afternoon!
