Road Closed

The roads leading to the hills northeast of Arnhem (eastern Holland) are closed due to snow and ice, including the hazard of snow falling from trees. Bit surprised about that latter reason, as the snow is quite light and powdery. What does fall from the trees tends to disintegrate into a shower of ice crystals.

Anyone who thinks Holland is all flat would have a surprise in this part of the country. The Beekhuizensweg, pictured above, has some nasty gradients as it climbs out of Velp north onto the Posbank height, which tops 340 feet (102 metres) above sealevel. The road closures remain in force until the snow has melted. Looking at the weatherforecast, that may take days, if not weeks.

This will be my last blip from Holland for the time being. Tomorrow, I shall once more brave the winter weather to fly back to Stornoway.
