Paying Dues

This is the Ceremony of the Constable’s Dues at the Tower of London.
It dates back to the 14th century when ships would pay a fee to the Constable of the Tower for the extra security that came with mooring next to the Tower.
Sailors from the German ship FGS Niedersachsen are bringing a barrel of wine to the lucky Constable.

I heard about it through a very good site called Ian Visits, that flags up lots of less well known events and places in London. There is a particular emphasis on transport related history and events.
