A Tour Through Changed Streets
Pictured: A parked new Cadillac, a true luxury given the ~100% tax rate imposed on cars in Israel, in Mea Shearim. When my grandfather's grandfather took part in establishing the neighborhood there was no running water let alone cars or even luxury cars. Still, the neighborhood is symbolic for its ultra-orthodox religious Haredi Jews who devote their lives to their studies. In the background, to the left of the car, you can barely make out a Pashkvil where the local rabbinical leaders post specific rules and announcements for the community.
Obviously, there's an unknown story behind this picture, some high profile visitor seeking guidance perhaps?
