Panoramic views
We had a late breakfast today at 8 am then out to catch a train to Moneglia, a blue flag seaside resort between the Tigulio and the Cinque Terre. I'm doing the D+ walks this week and felt confident after walking on the West Highland Way a few weeks ago.
However as you can see from the blips, there is a narrow coastal strip - along which the railway runs - with fairly high hills behind. Today's walk was 16 km with 650 m of ascent and descent. The problem was that to get out of the coastal towns, we climbed straight away to Punta Baffe; and rather than a contouring pathway around the hills, we went straight up via a brick stairway - quite hard going.
It was an enjoyable walk once we stopped climbing and we were rewarded with spectacular views and lovely vegetation. It must have been washday in one of the little villages as you can see a child's soft toys hung out to dry.
The last blip includes Ian from Glasgow whom we met in Lanzarote last year and decided to meet up with him on this trip.
The route descended along a very rocky path into Riva where we had lunch, then another climb to Punta Manara before returning via a path to Sestri.
