Dilapidation

A chilly- but somehow heavy day, here. I have watched this old jetty deteriorate for the last thirty years. In storms, portions of it wash up on the beach. Some might construe it as symbolic of the town's decline. When I was a child, steamers such as 'The Duchess of Hamilton' moored overnight at the pier in the background- and there was buzz and bustle. The base at the Holy Loch seemed to generate traffic from the jetty -although I am glad to see the base go. Yet, to my mind, there is recovery in the town with new businesses opening and money being spent. Perhaps we just need to learn to use and enjoy the river in new ways!
