From the room at the top
My quest for a vantage point to take pictures of Stroud from on high came good today. Deidre contacted me to say that it would be fine for me to visit her in her penthouse flat in Hill Paul, Unfortunately the weather has been terrible with rain and thick dark clouds hanging over our heads for days. But then suddenly the light got brighter and the cloud cover rose higher in th sky and eventually a bit of blue sky emerged.
I went to see her at about 3pm and although there were still threatening black clouds milling about they seemed to be keeping away from us. By the time I had reached the top floor of the building and introduced myself to Deidre and explained why I needed the pictures, the weather had definitely changed for the better.
Her flat faces both north and east-wards and she has a balcony on both sides. You can see the building in the background of my blip from yesterday.
I took a lot of pictures in rather a hurry and had found a minor problem with my camera which meant having to alter the settings after each shot. I wanted to record the whole vista but every few seconds the sun light was shining on different parts of the town and on different types of buildings.
The view I have blipped is looking eastwards up the valley of the river Frome and shows the large car park space between the main railway line and the canal on the right hand side. Further to the right is the river which marks the boundary of the town. Our house is the the last house on the east side of the town lying just as the land becomes farmland and our back garden forms the boundary of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the AONB. We are so lucky to have wooded pasture farm land on one side and a short walk into town on the other, with our own wonderful views. But the scenery from Deidre's flat is outstanding with the green countryside spread all around the central town area. I felt very lucky to be able to record it for not only myself but also for it to be used in the neighbourhood planning to come.
