Sparrowhawk, London Wetland Centre
Male Sparrowhawk at the London Wetland Centre
The Eurasian Sparrowhawk is one of the few birds of prey which reside in the London, one the busiest capital cities in the world. The London Wetland Centre on its suburbs is intensely managed to have not only waterfowl but woodland birds as well. I have often seen Sparrowhawks at the wetland as they hunt, but seldom do they offer a chance for photography. I was sound recording birds when I heard Great Tits mobbing a predator and came to notice this male. The males are smaller than the females and will take smaller sized prey.
