Somateria mollissima

I saw from this family from the bus stop on the Shore - the first eider ducklings I've seen on the Water of Leith. This is presumably their first journey downstream from the nest site; the mother was diving and bathing a lot as they progressed, presumably feeling quite itchy and very hungry having not once moved off her eggs since she laid them.

Only two ducklings; I wonder if they lost any to the ever-present gulls who patrol the WoL looking to pick up snacks.
