Daddy's Pride
While doing the ironing yesterday I watched one of my treasured Cosmos DVDs. It was one of my favourite episodes, One Voice In The Cosmic Fugue, in which Carl Sagan explores the universe within us, evolution, natural and artificial selection and, best of all, the birth and growth of the universe through the cosmic calendar. My daughter watched with interest, though I never asked her to and, by a strange coincidence, the text which she is now studying for English classes is the Earth Calendar, which describes the formation and growth of the Earth through a one year calendar. I'm so glad that she finds Carl Sagan's Cosmic Calendar so fascinating, as well as the process of evolution; she's a girl after her Daddy's heart. Here she is memorizing her text book.
As for my son? Well, he did me proud today by asking if I could take him on a ten kilometer run to Ashiya and back this evening. Any time! He made it in one hour and thirty one minutes; slower than before, but still good, I think, for a boy of ten.
