Far from the Madding Crowd
A few minutes' walk from Corfe Castle, accessible only by a winding narrow lane (unsuitable for any driver of nervous disposition), is the secluded site of Challow. It comprises the large farmhouse - in the centre of the photo - and several smaller dwellings housed in the farm's former outbuildings.
To the bottom right of the photo is a traditional shepherd's hut, either restored or more probably newly made. These can serve as garden sheds or even as overflow accommodation.
The surrounding trees screen Challow from some of the force of the prevailing south-westerly winds. This view, taken from the south slope of the Purbeck Hills, looks southwards across the valley towards Kingston village on the ridge opposite.
