Spoilt for Choice

Today is Mother's Day in France, and Fleurs d'Olargues, the wonderful restaurant right here in Olargues where we went for a leisurely Sunday lunch with our friends C and J, was full of families celebrating mothers and grandmothers.

The weather was fine enough for us to sit on the patio, where we enjoyed the creative, delicious cuisine that Fleurs d'Olargues is known for, as well as a view of the Jaur River and the village perched above it.

My French is not equal to the detailed descriptions of the menu, but I did take photos of several dishes, and will post them on Flickr, as well as other photos from our holiday, once I'm home. (Note to self: Learn to post on Blipfolio!)

I do love a restaurant where you don't have to choose one dessert, but instead can have several tastes of four, beautifully presented like these. My favorite was the tiny citron (lemon) cheesecake, sitting between the creme brulee and the chocolate mousse, because the folks at Fleurs are not afraid to use quite a lot of lemon in their cooking, which adds a zing to their food -- and happens to be one of my favorite flavors. The dessert on the right is a strawberry and rhubarb compote, topped with cream -- so simple, yet rich in the flavors of spring.

This is the first food photo I've blipped for the French portion of our holiday, but we've had photos of three blipmeets to share, and haven't eaten out as often as in Brugge/Bruges.

Tomorrow is our last full day here, so we have the studio flat to tidy and need to be 99% packed before we go to bed tomorrow evening, as we'll be checking out at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday. We've had a marvelous time here, as always, and will have many pleasant memories to take home with us -- the best kind of souvenir.

(Today is Phil's 1500th blip -- stop by and congratulate him at Blipfoto.com/Pilipo)
