Friend or Enemy

Went visiting today (as it was pouring down at home) and while having coffee in the sunshine in a garden only 4 miles away, these two were sitting on the fence. The cat sat for a long while, the magpie kept flying off and then coming back and taking up position beside the cat.

Any explanations!!!!
