Turning the wheel of time into rhythm
As the great wheel of time turns slowly but steadily on, this beautiful sunday is already bending towards its ending. We made a fresh and early start, though unclear about when my way would find its startingpoint. Willemien would join Mischa in our old and beloved town of Leyden. And I certainly was going to make my daily trip to the seaside. But when? In the morning and at midday I could only go for a swim. Because of high tide. And already yesterday I had tried to make a detour and visit the Turrel-work of Sky-art in the dunes. But the photo’s I brought back from there lacked the necessary tension. And I still need to do more research on Turrel.
So after doing Blip-Homework, I went to the seaside shortly after lunch. From the top of the dunes I could see already that I would have to follow a different way in order to reach the peninsula. No point, as I could cycle further to the South and cross over by the mainland connection. But halfway to my surprise I saw some swimmers, dogs and children crossing the broad laguna, apparently less deep than I expected. So again I changed direction, left my bike halfway and made my wading pulling up my backpack slightly. Easy piece of cake - I’ve crossed a river in October with full load on my head (in 1978…) - only wet shorts now.
Again I could walk on the deep wet sandbanks, just fallen dry, virgin soil, always a thrill to feel the first visitor - one of the first to be honest - but certainly to be there as the first seaside walker. And find in front of you the sands, remaining waters, the surf and free sight all around unto the horizon. The birds are still sitting and flying where they were the first to discover their most tasty grounds, shores, waves. Here you can really feel the sovereign liberty of BEING a “Zanderling”, as I called it before. And this afternoon again there was a massive gathering of of my red-beaked and red-legged friends, the Terns. Again anew their witty, cheerful song gave an extra swing onto that wheel of rhythm that through deep breathing fills your soul with happiness and serenity.
