Burwell, Cambridgeshire

Where we are staying for a week's holiday!

We are staying in a very nice apartment that we have stayed in before and the kitchen is very well equipped. There are 5 Fish Slicers, 28 mugs, 34 glasses and beakers, 2 bread bins, 10 chopping boards, 7 trays, 2 pizza cutters, and 10 cook's knives! Plenty there for a commercial kitchen nearly!

We left home at 11.33am and arrived at 5.20pm. A stop was made at Thurrock Services and a huge jam within the services caused a big delay. Once out, I went via the A13, A130, A12 and A14 to Burwell.

Burwell is a large village right on the edge of the Fens. It has a very long main street and contains many old and interesting buildings. The huge church is 15th Century and is thought to have used masons who were working on King's College Chapel at Cambridge.

This is a fairly recent village sign and it carries on the tradition of village signs started in Norfolk in the 1920's. Similar signs can be found all over Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk and Lincolnshire and locally to me as we have one at home. The best signs are definately those found in the eastern counties of which this is a fine example.
