Missing Men

Today after my final game of rugby I went with my host family around a few World War I memorials. This is a photo of one of the many pillars of the Thiepval Memoriall. On these pillars are the names of 72,195 missing British and South African soldiers who died in The Battle of Somme who have no known graves.

It is amazing how many World War I cemeteries there are around small villages in France. Most small villages and towns in the north of France have at least one memorial to commemorate the sacrifice that all these young men gave.
