Salt Pans near Marsala
Sicily Day 7 - Back Blip
Our flight home was not until the evening, so we actually drove 2 hours in the wrong direction to return to the salt pans near Marsala. We had been here a couple of nights before literally just in time to see the sunset over the windmill. (seconds to spare!) The journey had taken a LOT longer than we had planned thanks mainly to the TERRIBLE LACK OF SIGNS IN SICILY! The sunset was not spectacular, but if you are ever in the area, put in on your list of places to go and get there in good time for sunset whilst enjoying your meal. We enjoyed as glass of Marsala with our desserts.
My sunset shots are included in my Blog of Sicily here
During this day time visit, we took a boat trip out a small island, so took this shot from the boat on our return. On the left you can see a salt pyramid. The salt is left to dry out for about 4 months, then piled into a pyramid shape and covered in slates to dry further.
Now back home to rain!
