Le fete de Mai de St Tulle

Afraid that we never celebrated St Tulle in my Methodist upbringing but here in Cucuron St Tulle is said to have saved the village from the plague, and they celebrate each year by felling a tree ( a big tree) and carrying it through the village with a small boy sat on it and then hoist it up out side the church after blessing it. Sounds crazy but it was fascinating to see and it seemed the whole village was out taking part. There were some fantastic lace bonnets worn by the ladies, who led the parade with singing and there were some fantastic physiques from the men carrying the tree. sheer chance we happened to be here for St Tulle's day but I am pleased that we were. english link to the event.
