Known to God

This is one side of the inside of the Menin Gate in Ypres. There are 54,000 names on the walls of this monument to those whose bodies were never found in the First World War. Soldiers from the UK and other Commonwealth countries.

We also visited the "In Flanders Field" Museum in the Cloth Hall in the centre of Ypres. That is a brilliantly informative and evocative audio visual presentation of the history and results of the war.

Tomorrow we are going with a guide to the Somme and we hope to extend our knowledge of that awful bungled time in the history of Europe and it's worldwide ramifications.
