Iris time
This is always an exciting time in the garden. The last few days have mostly been very wet and gloomy and have kept me inside far too much...though a few on-hold projects have benefitted! The general warmth and wet of May have brought a mass of green growth and this is now punctuated with some spectacular flower heads, the most impressive at the moment being irises. The enormous petals and folds and cavernous centre with its bearded entrance makes the iris a truly magical flower to explore in close-up. I got soaked going out for this photograph. I see that the iris is named from the Greek word for rainbow, reflecting the vast range of colours that the genus can produce. I can assure you, this was the only 'rainbow' in sight today!
