Double Whoops

Not a happy bunny today.

Emergency call from the daughter at 07.00 or there about – builders coming to knock down the old lean-to conservatory and the electrician had not been to change the wall socket for a weather proof one! Good old Dad!!!

Fortunately ScrewFix opens at 07.00 so over to her’s to see what was needed, then around to ScrewFix to pick up an IP66 double socket and some sealant.

Of course I put everything in except my multi meter and drill bits – luckily offspring can fill in the gaps. Next job – remove old light from dead wiring and make temporary tidy up of wires.

Job done and dusted when son-in-law Skypes, and informs us that wiring is live and feeds lights in dining area . . .

Back to ScrewFix for a junction box – FIRST WHOOPS! Reversing into parking space and the reversing warning fails to pick up a steel post until its well in the red - -so was the air - - no more rear fog light.

Booked into the Renault Garage to get fixed next Monday (parts need ordering). You may notice an amber bulb in there. Just in case we get another pea-souper daylight fog I figured that a red or amber bulb would do as a temporary solution – no red available, but an amber light is not illegal at the rear of a vehicle (as a white one is when travelling) and it’s better than nothing. The only trouble is the pins are offset so that you don’t accidentally put a white bulb in the indicators – a little filing adjusted the amber bulb to go where a white one should be.

Whoops number two – when it got late and in desperation I decided to blip the fog light (NOT my idea – guess who!!), and I nipped out with my trusty telephone, I found it was showing a blue streak (bottom right of image – would have cropped smaller but I wanted to bore you lot with it . . .). Have checked it all out and it appears to be on or from the chip, not the lens, Oh dear – any suggestions?
