Modern Head

Back in DC, this time in a new neighbourhood. Heading in to the office, found this big blue blip. It is Modern Head by Roy Lichtenstein, and it used to stand in Battery Park, NY, just a block away from the World Trade Center. It survived the 9/11 attack with just a few scratches and was used by the FBI as a temporary message board.

It was conceived in 1974 and made 1989/90. It is 31 feet tall and made of stainless steel painted blue. It now stands outside the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
