After months of hard work by my team (most of it before my time, I hasten to add), the Scottish Parliament approved regulations today to bring in a 5p charge for single use carrier bags from October 2014.

The aim is not to raise money, but rather to reduce the number of single use carrier bags in circulation and ultimately stop them ending up as litter in our trees and bushes.

So, save a bob. Bring your own bag.
