Nesting
Every year the swifts that must have considered the barn theirs before we came along and turned the derelict farm building into a home for people come back and nest.
Usually they build their nests in the rafters in the passage through to the courtyard.
Every now and then they try and nest on the side of the house.Usually I can dissuade them from this before any nests are built. Not that they are a particular pest, in fact watching them swoop and dive for insects is quite a spectacles but they do leave a lot of mess on the old timbers and brickwork. So a little water jet on the eaves and they relocate to the archway.
This week though I have been away and they sneaked in and took possession whilst I couldn't see them.
As I was struggling for a blip today having spent most of the day travelling, driving from Eastbourne to home, in traffic jams and pouring rain I am in fact rather glad of my new found muses who I can photograph by leaning out of the spare bedroom window and uncomfortable angles.
This will no doubt be the first of a long series.
