The Archway Campus
This building started life as the Holborn Union Infirmary, and opened in 1879 with 625 beds.
It has changed its name many times over the years; to the Holborn and Finsbury Hospital in 1921 and to Archway Hospital in 1930. In 1948, at the advent of the NHS, it was merged with two other hospitals to become Whittington Hospital.
Then, in 1998 it was sold to University College London and Middlesex University to become the Archway Campus, where they taught degree courses in medicine and did some medical research.
They then sold the building in 2013 to 'Peabody' - which started life as the Peabody Trust in 1862, started by the American banker and philanthropist, George Peabody. George wanted to provide homes for all and made it his life's goal to create new housing in London that anyone could afford.
The Peabody plan now is to provide a range of housing on the site for rich and poor. It's currently going through the planning process.
