Went along mainly to test out this lens that I'll be using at a friend's (rapidly approaching) wedding. It's not really intended for fast sports action, but worked well enough.
Was caught-out by a last minute change to the route of the event. After extremely heavy rain resulted in a various parts of the run/walk (first) stage being flooded, it was changed to a road run. This made it less of a mud/peat bath, and also prevented damage to the Cawdor Estate moorland from all those tramping feet. Trouble was that there was no warning for traffic, and I unexpectedly had to overtake all the runners and walkers, in order to reach my intended destination - the changeover to the bicycles. The road was of course a narrow windy one.
After being delayed, I didn't quite make it in time for the first cyclists, and had to get off the road (abandon the car) a couple of miles short of the changeover - for the sake of everyone's safety.
