Leyland's clocks

January 31st, 2012. I'd been doing my 'photo a day' blog for just over two weeks. On that day I took this picture, which, for some reason, has always stuck in my mind. Today's photo is the the slate block at the foot of the clock.

There are a couple of things I like about the clock's story. The first is that there are enthusiasts around who do things like restoring old clocks. The second is that Leyland Motors installed the seven clocks around the country. Do businesses do things like that, anymore? I can't think of anything along the lines of Leyland's clocks.

I know that a lot of larger companies have CSR policies but I don't think that's quite the same. Wouldn't it be great if all these large companies - especially the monopolies that effectively print their own money - had departments that were concerned with simply spending a chunk of money each year to make our towns and cities nicer places to be?
