It's been a good year for the hostas

For several years I grew my hostas in the same bed and they were fine. Last year i moved them to a different bed and they were severely damaged by slugs and snails. I decided to move them back to their original bed and at the same time divide them.

They are looking great. Gardening programmes will tell you all sorts of ways to limit slug damage but my tip is to plant the hostas in a bed with compacted stony soil which the slugs do not like as they can burrow in to lay eggs.
