erratic holder

This could perhaps have been left here by a shopping-customer, not inclined to return it to the trolley-corral despite the extreme ease with which they could have done so; there were quite a few dotted about at various points, adding to the hazardness of the car park, already confused by the mismatch of the moraines of re-frozen slush with the edges of the parking spaces. It could equally possibly have been left there by one of the trolley-retrieval operatives who were taking trolleys to the top of the slope in the other bit of the car park and seeing if they could get all the way down without chickening out and putting their feet on the ground instead of collecting all the strays and sticking them somewhere out of the way of the already accuracy-impaired cars.

Not as cold out tonight as it could have been, but cold enough (even when lugging a backpackful of shoppings back up the road) to be pleasant.
