At Hay Festival: Its all about the books
This fantastic sculpture is for me the centre of what this festival is about. Its an awe inspiring creation, that not only fascinates adults but engage children alike.
For me, books are a small part of this event. Its about the coming together of people. Like any festival, this coming together to share a common theme be it a love of books, music, culture, art is an intrinsic part of human nature. There are so many reasons these days to hide behind a computer, iPad or iPhone. These events really do show that the hymn sharing spirit is alive and well.
Never was this so apparent, when I met Bear Grylls. Too quickly his PR ushered him through, and of course by necessity. But, whats so important is that Bear stopped to talk to is fans, children, like my son Sam who see this man as their Wilderness hero. Its too easy to become a hero and disappear, because somewhere on an iPad or TV they will re appear. When you have a passion that you want to share, then I think its important to stay in touch with the reason you wanted to share it in the first place.
My Sam, said a huge 'Wooooooooow" to his signed copy. Books are real when the people who write them stay real too x
