My question is why...
The inscription on this inset stone on the outside wall of this church says...
Near this place lye
Interred.the Bodys of
Jasper Peck Esq.r of Cornish
in this Parish & of Amy his wife
who was the youngest Daugh-
her of Sr. Kenrick Eyton Kt.
of Eyton in this County.they
left Issue one son & four
daughters.he Died 6th Jan
1712 O.S. in the 55th year
of his Age.She died 12th
March 1740 O.S. Aged 80
My question is why did T.B. and/or Thomas Baker 1794 seem fit to inscribe their name and presumably death date of 1794 (or maybe it is not his death date but graffiti) on the sandstone below the inset and again on the wall below. I think I can assume T.B and Thomas Baker 1794 are the same person because the typeface is exactly the same). With the inscription of Thomas Baker the date, 1794, appears to have been inscribed over an earlier inscription.
Around this particular church were many names and dates carved in the sandstone outside wall. Most of them not as skillfully as this one, all dated 1700's and 1800's. All the full names were men. I have never yet seen this on the outside walls of a church before (apart from modern graffiti)
