True geranium

Most of what we call geraniums are actually pelargoniums, but I am very fond of the true geraniums, with their more delicate leaves and flowers and (mostly) softer colours. I love their rampant ground cover efficiency, and their profusion of bloom spread evenly through a well-established plant.

Today has been a productive one in the garden, hacking back more of the overgrown shrubbery, ripping out brambles and repotting some of the patio tubs. I have had plenty of company throughout the afternoon - our Pointer and a variety of wildlife including a young fox, squirrel and a wide variety of birds. A flock of vibrant parakeets landed briefly in the copper beech tree, where they made a wonderful colour contrast, but I wasn't quick enough to capture them before they took flight again. Maybe next time.
