Memorial to Mother

Today a Sunday drive took us out to Chimayo north of Santa Fe. Chimayo is a small spanish town, famous for quite a few things: the Santuario Church that people make a pilgrimage of many miles to every Easter, Chimayo chile which is some of the very best, and a wonderful restaurant, Rancho de Chimayo where we stopped for lunch. Fabulous northern New Mexico food that people come for from all over.

On the way back we stopped at a catholic church called Sacred Heart in Nambe. There is a cemetery there in which a man built a memorial to his mother which is an exact replica of the church. It's a little hard to tell from the image, but it only stands about 3 ft 6'' tall. It is complete with white crosses on the top, stained glass windows on the side, and is lit by solar power at night.

You can see the big church here.
