Immense

This is part of a short story. The beginning is here

Scrobe started across the bridge. It seemed at first to be a normal bridge but as with most things in this strange place it wasn't. Three times, it had happened. He walked across the bridge and the moment he set foot on the other side, he was at the beginning of his crossing again. The fourth time was different and he continued. It was an easy path towards the building he had seen from the other side of the frozen lake. That, also seemed strange to him but he just accepted it.

When he reached the building he was surprised to see that it had no walls. There was nothing holding up the roof. From across the frozen lake, he had seen something but here, faced with the strange building, he couldn't see anything holding the roof away from the floor. His eyes were drawn to it. He looked above the roof and there was nothing.. below.. nothing. He was still pondering the question when a bright sparkle caught his eye and he finally looked at the floor of the building. It was covered in gold. Beautiful and gleaming, it called to him. He had only once ever seen a cold coin but he knew what this was. Wealth and riches beyond his wildest dreams lay within his grasp. He walked forward. He could not take his eyes from the sparkling treasure before him.

He picked up a single coin.. then looked at the mountain of delight before him and leapt into it. He wanted to swim in it.. wrap himself in the fantasy that all this could be his. He landed on on the gold. Felt himself sinking into it. He felt exhilarated. He felt alive. He felt happy.

Then, as had happened before, the gold disappeared. He fell with a thud to the floor. When he looked up... once again, he was not where he was.. he was looking at an immense blue structure. Maybe a younger version of the ruined tower he had been in before. There was a sign on a nearby tree.
