Twins

We drove south on glorious US Highway 101, along the whale's way toward California and a night in Eureka, CA. Blue skies, blue waters, sunshine and wildflowers. Sue's twin brother worked for the forest service and devoted his life to caring for the majestic trees and rain forests of northern California. It was my first time to meet him and his talented wife (a teacher and fabric artist) of forty-some years, and I was struck by the ways the twins are alike and the ways they're different. Both are birders, hikers, lovers of the earth, lovers of their large and various family. Doug is not so interested in the arts, literature, and meditation as is his sister, but they share some affinities that matter to them both and to those of us who love them.
