Girls can be knights too

I was so very happy today that both my daughter and her friend (also a girl) didn't think twice before becoming knights and fighting imaginary dragons, and then becoming superheroes and saving toys in trouble.
Hurrah for two girls who see no gender boundaries in dressup!
A good friend shared her blog article today on the gender bias in scientific researchers affecting the research available. It seems the majority of scientists have always been male and the result in biological studies is a bias with numerous studies detailing male anatomy when compared to a few studies detailing female anatomy.
Yes there are differences between girls and boys - however if someone really sets their heart on a particular profession, there are very few that they cannot achieve due to their having the incorrect gender.
We are raising our daughter to believe that she can achieve anything and have any profession she wants. Of course aged 4 she wants to be a princess when she grows up. However she has also expressed interest in flying a spaceship, building the perfect tower, being a zookeeper, being a doctor, being a firefighter, training unicorns and being a mermaid!
