Collections

You could argue that Blipfoto itself is basically a series of collections. On one level, it's a collective of like-minded photography fans. On another, an ever-evolving assortment of images charting the progress through the days. For many of us, it's also become a rather fine repository of ideas, feelings, rants and banter.

Our third assignment asked you to riff on the collections theme in whichever way the inspiration struck you. Once again, there were tons of excellent images to choose from so a big thanks - and kudos - to all who got into the spirit of it.

Luckily, no one came forward to show off their lifetime's supply of toenail clippings or a freezer full of human remains. But we did glimpse, among the many submissions; tunes, figures, coolers, penguins, cars, money, girls, comics, trainers, beanies, hearts, beermats, masks, paperweights, eggs, no eggs, papery ephemera, garage nostalgia and err... stone steps.

Here's a small compilation of the blipcentral favourites:

Ever fallen in love?
For sheer, borderline-obsessive completism, there was only one contender. Little did we realise how solid TheSly1's fan-boy credentials were (hint: his journal title is "buzzcocksfan"). Well, 6 days' worth of CDs, vinyl, clothes, mugs, backstage passes and merchandise nailed his colours to the mast with aplomb. Question is; why can't we touch it?

Hope of the states
An Apple a Day raised the stakes by collecting on a grand scale. Can you work out which three she needs to complete the set?

Arise, centurion
Chaos collected 100 blippers to celebrate 100 entries. 100% for efffort! How well did you fare on the test?

The man upstairs
Sp33dway took a unique tack with his heartwarming tale of grandson's devotion.

The bouncer
You can tell from his haughty expression that the invisible man didn't think much of having his photo taken by A pinhole sky expodes out.

Watch this...
No doubt about it - time is on dark|adapted's side.

Shake it...
And this wouldn't be Blip if we didn't include at least one person's treasury of exotic camera gear. We particularly liked Blue Planet Photography's elegant old Polaroids.

Now for the next assignment... You may not be aware of this, but next Thursday (19th July) marks the first anniversary of the launch of Blipfoto. It's been a fun, inspiring and exciting year for us here at Blipcentral and the warm response the site has received, along with the vibrant community which has sprung up around it, really is amazing.

In recognition of that fact, the theme for this week's assignment is
"A birthday card for Blip". Just earmark any images you wish to submit with the tag "assignment4".

Some of you are also creeping very close to that much coveted 'gold camera' icon. Congratulations to you all in advance and here's to the next 365 blips!
