100 years since WWI
WWI is known as "De Groote Oorlog" = The Big War in Belgium. Every town and village has memorials of that war and its fallen. This year there are special walking tours, theatre plays and many more activities to commemorate this war which had such an enormous impact on all countries involved. A 5 minutes' walk from our house (on today's 'see where a 10 minutes walk will bring me', see yesterday's Blip) I saw this newly placed sign with beautiful poppies underneath. The sign commemorates 25 year old Louis Guns, who had been born in Jezus-Eik and lived in Overijse and who was killed on 28 September 1918 at Westrozebeke in the final liberation offensive, so probably the last victim of that war in Overijse. The sign is placed in the street which is named after him.
Thanks very much for your comments and stars for yesterday's Belgian farm Blip, much appreciated
