If anything happens to this plant....!

A few years ago we had the back garden restructured. We used a company to remove 70 tons of concrete. We also asked them to move a few very large plants. The gardener wanted to remove this weigela plant. He said it was too old and woody. It did and still does produce vast numbers of flowers. My wife was, and is, very fond of it. She explained in a quiet but determined voice what might happen to the gardener if anything happened to the plant. She asked him to confirm that he understood. He nodded his assent. The plant is still with us, old and knarled, maybe increasingly like ourselves?
