Contrada of the Owl, Siena

One of the many delights of Siena is the division of the city into the 17 contradas, each with its own mascot (or sigil if you're into Game of Thrones!!!) and colours. 10 contradas each year compete in the famous Palio, a savage bareback horse race round the campo (main square) on 2nd July and again on 16th August. Much pomp, ceremony and medieval stuff takes place.. I've had enormous fun, seeking out these tiles as I accidentally wander from one territory to another!
