Serene and content

Just now nothing beats the satisfaction of being in the middle of an interesting book. You know the feeling how it draws you into reading it although you might have something better to do. And how the thoughts and imagery just linger on after having finished it.

I'm currently reading, or actually listening, an excellent audiobook by British author Louis de Bernieres called Birds without Wings. It is set in last century Anatolia, and the author has dug up a wealth of background information of local culture and its diverse population (Christians, Muslims, Armenians).

A very strong and earthy story told in many voices. Some of the depiction of WWI in Gallipoli might be a bit gruesome and too lifelike for some, but war is thankfully not in the main focus here, but rather the many human fortunes it touches.

The book is read by the ever dependable John Lee.
