DDW Challenge: Gone with the Wind

"A People without History Is Like
Wind on the Buffalo Grass ....
It’s here and then it gone. "

I’ve just finished reading Butchers Crossing by John Williams which tells of the final days of the great Buffalo hunts in North America (that’s ‘great’ as in scale…). The numbers are almost impossible to grasp. So many killed in such a short period of time. Gone with the wind.

I used to have a good friend who lived in Nebraska and so I was fortunate enough to visit the Mid West. I saw this Buffalo in the gift shop at the Crazy Horse Memorial, South Dakota and the real thing in Custer State Park. I even managed a short horse ride in the Black Hills of Dakota (that’s short as in duration ..…) Cue Doris Day.
