Love Padlocks, Ponte dell'Accademia, Venice
The Ponte dell'Accademia is one of only four bridges in Venice, Italy, to span the Grand Canal. It crosses near the southern end of the canal, and is named for the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, which from 1807 to 2004 was housed in the Scuola della Carità together with the Gallerie dell'Accademia, which is still there. The bridge links the sestiere of Dorsoduro and San Marco.
A local tradition is to announce your undying love for each other by fixing a padlock to the bridge. Literally every possible opportunity is used to fix the locks to the bridge (unfortunately we couldn't find a padlock shop while we were there!).
A very big thank you for making yesterday's image one of my most favourited images on Blip. It's an observation only, but it didn't make Spotlight and I think that is down to the lack of responses I have been making to all of your kind comments, stars and faves. We were limited in opportunities to access the internet. I know we often wonder why some images do and others don't and this may just add to the conversation.
We are now back in the UK and I will catch up with you all in the next few days.
